What "fast care, fast track" looks like

01 · An international student in exam season — same-day care

Symptoms: Three days of fever and cough; four hours in NHS A&E for painkillers only; sore throat with a little blood in the cough.

MEDii: Seen in the urgent care clinic the same day; inflammatory markers back in 20 minutes; bacterial infection confirmed; the senior doctor started nebuliser and antibiotic treatment immediately.

Outcome: Symptoms eased in two days and revision continued; parents in China received a Chinese-language explanation the same day.

02 · A father visiting the UK — emergency medical guarantor

Symptoms: Sudden extreme fatigue, dehydration and confusion.

MEDii: Blood tests completed in 20 minutes showed hyperosmolar hyperglycaemia — a first diabetic emergency; as guarantor, MEDii liaised with the hospital, kept the family updated with first-hand information, and arranged same-day transfer to a partner hospital for fluid resuscitation and insulin treatment.

Outcome: Serious complications were avoided and his condition stabilised quickly — the family never had to face an unfamiliar hospital system alone.
