Using insurance? See how cover works at MEDiiGastroenterology — your questions answered
Do I need a GP referral to see a gastroenterologist?
No. You can book directly with a MEDii consultant gastroenterologist — no referral letter needed. If you're insured, check whether your insurer requires a GP referral for claims; our team can help.
How quickly can I be seen?
Often within 24 hours of booking, and almost always within a few days. Endoscopy is scheduled promptly after your consultation.
Do I have to have a camera test?
Only if it genuinely changes the answer. Many problems are diagnosed with bloods, stool tests and ultrasound alone — your consultant will explain exactly why a scope is or isn't needed.
Is endoscopy painful?
Gastroscopy and colonoscopy are routinely done with sedation for comfort — most patients remember very little.
I've had symptoms for years and normal tests — is it worth coming?
Yes — long-standing bloating, IBS-type symptoms and “everything's normal” results are exactly what a specialist work-up is for. We look deeper (calprotectin, H. pylori, coeliac screen, motility studies) and give you an explanation, not a shrug.
Can you manage a condition diagnosed abroad — like hepatitis B?
Yes. Bring (or send) your records, including 中文 reports; we set up UK-based surveillance and treatment, and coordinate with your doctors at home.
