The Simple Version

Who Does What

The Payer

Your Insurer

Your insurance company is an FCA-regulated financial institution. They are the payer — the decision on what is covered, authorised and reimbursed rests entirely with them, under the terms of your individual policy.

The Provider

MEDii

MEDii is a CQC-regulated medical center. We are the provider — we deliver your medical care directly and give you properly formatted medical bills and documentation to support your claim.

Knowing this distinction makes everything else simple: we look after your care and your paperwork; your insurer decides on payment. Always check your own policy so you know what to expect.

International Policies

For Patients Insured Abroad

If you hold an international policy — for example Bupa Global or another insurer that covers medical treatment overseas — you're well placed to use MEDii while travelling or visiting. For medical needs during a trip, the usual route is pay first, then claim back from your insurer. As a licensed medical center, our invoices are widely accepted by major insurers for international medical bills.

How it typically works

  1. 01

    Tell us upfront

Let our team know before or at your visit that you intend to claim, so we can prepare your medical bills in the correct format for your insurer.

  2. 02

Pay at the time of care

For most international claims you settle with MEDii directly, then submit the bill to your insurer for reimbursement.

  3. 03

    Submit to your insurer

Send your formatted invoice and documentation to your insurer following their process.

  4. 04

    Additional forms, if required

Some insurers ask our doctors to complete extra claim forms. Depending on the complexity of the form and the time involved, a paperwork-handling fee may apply.

  5. 05

    Reimbursement

Your insurer assesses and reimburses according to your policy.

Check your cover

Always check your own insurance policy first. Many policies have a claim cap, so for any larger expenditure — typically over £1,000 — please double-check with your insurer before proceeding.

Our honest commitment

MEDii will give you accurate, properly formatted medical bills and documentation. We cannot, however, guarantee that any claim will be paid (报销 / Bao Xiao) — that decision rests solely with your insurer and your policy terms.

UK / Local Policies

For Patients Insured in the UK

If you hold a UK policy — local insurers such as Aviva or Bupa — MEDii is increasingly recognised by insurers covering local residents. UK cover usually works differently from international cover: authorisation is normally required first. Certain advanced policies may allow you to pay and then claim. Always check with your insurer.

Get Authorised First

Most UK insurers require an authorisation code before your appointment. Without it, your care may not be covered. Some advanced policies allow pay-and-claim instead — your insurer will confirm which applies to you.

Primary vs Specialist Cover

Many UK policies offer very limited cover for primary care, and will only authorise secondary or specialist care onward. It's worth checking exactly what your policy includes before you visit.

A Complement to Your Policy

This is where MEDii fits naturally. Combining MEDii's own services with your insurance helps ensure no element of your care is missing — MEDii complements most insurance policies and fills the gaps your cover may leave.

Health Screening

Using Screening Benefits at MEDii

Some policies include a health-screening benefit — but the rules on where you can use it vary by insurer.

Open benefit

Some insurers let you use your screening benefit (and its quoted allowance) at any regulated third-party provider. In this case, MEDii is a strong choice.

Network-only benefit

Other insurers only allow screening benefits to be used within their approved provider or own network.

MEDii provides excellent coverage for health screening and will help facilitate claims for insurers who approve this kind of use. Check with your insurer which case applies to you.

Why an Authorisation Code Matters

Without an authorisation code, your care may not be covered — or may not be fully covered — by your insurer. In practice this can mean:

  • You may be asked to co-pay or settle the remaining balance.
  • If a claim is denied, you are responsible for the full medical bill.

This is why we always advise insured patients to check with their insurer and make sure they understand their policy details before treatment. As a medical facility, MEDii cannot take responsibility for guaranteed insurance payment to policyholders.

Quick Answers

Insurance, at a Glance

Do I pay first and claim back?

For most international policies, yes — pay first, then claim. For UK policies, authorisation is usually required first, though some advanced policies allow pay-and-claim. Always confirm with your insurer.

Will my claim definitely be reimbursed?

That decision rests entirely with your insurer and your policy terms. MEDii provides accurate, correctly formatted bills, but cannot guarantee reimbursement.

What do you need from me to help with a claim?

Just tell us before or at your visit that you intend to claim, so we prepare your bills in the right format. If your insurer requires doctor-completed forms, a paperwork-handling fee may apply.

Is there a limit on what I can claim?

Most policies have a cap. For larger amounts — typically over £1,000 — check with your insurer before proceeding.

Does insurance cover primary care?

Many UK policies have limited primary-care cover and only authorise secondary or specialist care. MEDii's own services can complement your policy to fill those gaps.

Important — please read

Insurance cover, authorisation and reimbursement are governed entirely by your insurer and the terms of your individual policy. Your insurer is an FCA-regulated financial institution and is the payer; MEDii is a CQC-regulated medical center and is the provider of your care. MEDii provides accurate, correctly formatted medical documentation but does not guarantee insurance payment, reimbursement (报销 / Bao Xiao), or the outcome of any claim. Without a valid authorisation code, your care may not be covered or fully covered, and you may be liable for co-payment or the full balance. Always check your insurer and policy details before treatment. MEDii is a medical provider, not a financial adviser, and any broker details shared are for your information only.
