Gynaecology — your questions answered

Do I need a GP referral to see a gynaecologist?

No. You can book directly with a MEDii consultant gynaecologist — no referral letter needed. If you're insured, check whether your insurer requires a GP referral for claims; our team can help.

How quickly can I be seen?

Often within 24 hours, and almost always within a few days — including urgent slots for pain, bleeding and early-pregnancy worries.

Can I ask for a female doctor?

Tell us your preference when you book and we'll do our best to arrange it.

Can everything really be done in one visit?

Usually, yes: consultation, examination, swabs, bloods and ultrasound happen at 18 Duke's Road, most often in the same appointment. Biopsies and fittings are sometimes scheduled separately.

I'm newly pregnant and worried — is this the right place?

For pain, spotting or uncertainty in early pregnancy, yes — assessment, β-HCG and scan, usually the same visit. For emergencies (heavy bleeding, severe pain, collapse), go straight to A&E.

I keep being told my tests are "fine" but symptoms continue — can you help?

That's a common reason women come to us. A consultant reviews everything from the start — sometimes the answer is a skin condition, hormones or something a standard screen doesn't cover — and we keep going until you have an explanation.
